Falcons Open Outdoor Season in Arizona

March 19, 2008

The Air Force track and field team officially kicks off the outdoor season this weekend, as it begins a week-long training trip to Arizona. The Falcons will open the trip at the Willie Williams Classic (March 21-22) in Tempe, before closing out the week at the Arizona State Invitational (March 29) in Tucson. Air Force begins action on Friday, March 21, with the men's javelin, shot put and high jump.

Four outdoor record-holders highlight the Falcons' roster. Senior Travis Picou holds program-best marks in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, while classmate Kevin Hawkins holds the fastest time in the 800-meter run. On the women's side, sophomore Melissa Beerse holds the program standard in the pole vault, while classmate Sara Neubauer holds the longest shot put mark in Academy history.

Following its training trip, Air Force returns to Colorado for the Tom Benich Classic in Greeley on April 5. However, several of the Falcons' distance runners will travel to Palo Alto, Calif., to compete at the Stanford Invitational.
